BENEFITS OF STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
ASID ICON - ASID's professional digest informs students of cutting edge design research and business trends, along with key national and chapter issues. ASID ICON ™ is mailed to all ASID members.
ACCESS - ASID's student newsletter is published three times per year and sent to all student members and other design professionals.
Scholarships - the ASID Foundation Inc., sponsors national scholarship competitions. The scholarships include the ASID/Joel Polsky Prize and Academic
Achievement Award, the S. Harris/Educational Foundation Memorial Scholarship, the Yale R. Burge Competition, the ASID Educational Foundation/Mabelle Wilhelmina Boldt Memorial Scholarship and the Dora Brahms Award for Historic Preservation. In addition, the Washington Metro cahppter sponors a student design competition every other year that awards a cash prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The competition is usually announced in late fall with a deadline in early spring and winners are recognized at the chapter’s annual awards celebration the following fall.
ASID chapter events, seminars, workshops, STEP programs, CEUs and competitions - These programs provide the opportunity to interact with professional designers and expand your knowledge of the professional aspects of interior design.
Career Days - ASID professional chapters provide an introduction to the many career options open to interior design students. Spend a day exploring various career paths in the field of interior design. OPTIONS Career Day for students is usually held in November. The OPTIONS planning team is currently working to improve the program. Check back for more details later in the year.
Student Advisory Council - The Student Advisory Council (SAC) is a forum for governing and programming development. It is composed of three students, an educator, an industry representative, and a member of the Chapter Support Team who organizes and coordinates programs on the national level. The SAC also serves the student chapters to ensure effective communication throughout the school year.
Student representation - A student representative is mandated by chapter bylaws to be a voting member of each professional chapter's board. This gives student representation on the chapter level and allows for input in student and chapter programming.
Membership card - This card is mailed from ASID Headquarters after the application process is completed, and can be used for design center admission, some design competitions, chapter program discounts and more.
ASID Online - The "Members Only" section of the ASID Web site (www.asid.org) is available to all student members as well, including the use of the Membership Directory, Industry Partners directory, Message Board, Capitol Connections, and other features and services. In addition, the Washington Metropolitan Chapter has its own web site at www.asiddcmetro.org. You will find valuable information here regarding events and programs sponsored by the chapter, the chapter newsletter, and much more.
Advancement Discounts - Upon graduation, discounts for allied membership are offered to student chapter members and student corresponding members, which include partial waivers of membership dues.
